Specification and Estimates

Before Plans have been fully detailed, it makes sense to test it against the proposed budget to be sure the project will be affordable. Deerfield Design has developed a spread sheet format for preliminary estimating that is fairly accurate. Early specification writing in the spread sheet means that at least a dollar amount has been applied to the estimates for all aspects of the project, Some will be vague and just guess work and some will be quite accurate but the fact that an amount has been allocated for each item of work or material means a realistic result can be achieved.

The detail segments below are subtotaled and transferred to the summary above. The specification can be quite detailed and, printed without the estimate, can easily become part of a bid document at a later time.

When plans are complete and specifications and estimates have been prepared and found to be in line with budget expectation, project management consulting may be the appropriate next step.
